Workshop: The Art of Ritual, Saturday, November 1, 3-5 pm |
earn how to focus your attention to either change or build a desire. Using Theban alphabet symbols to create focus you write your decree (for example: I decree money will flow effortlessly to me), but you write this in symbols representing each letter, giving all your attention to the topic. Then we do a short meditation on this as a group, and the ritual is that we burn these decrees to release the desire so that you consciously see it is gone from you. Later, a representative from the group will scatter the ashes of these decrees to the waters of the Nile or the sea so it is now free to return to you. After twenty one days you usually get a change in your life. |

Olfa Tantawi is a writer in both English and Arabic and has had a long and varied experience as a journalist working for a number of Egyptian news papers and magazines. As a Hubert Humphrey Fellow she completed a year of studies at Philip Merrill College of Journalism University of Maryland

As a TV director and producer she wrote, edited and directed cultural and social programs investigating changes in the Egyptian society in its views of religion, women status and political trends.
Olfa is also a volunteer trainer at Alwan & Awtar NGO. The aim of this NGO is to introduce arts as a primary source of self esteem among the poor. Olfa teaches and is coordinating a still photography workshop for 12 to 16 years old teenagers of the Mokatam Zelzal residence area. The workshop is an attempt to help empower the youth and help them see their own lives and conditions of poverty in a different light.
At present Olfa is an online reporter for: www.mogtamana.org which is the first internet portal dedicated to covering and analyzing the activities of the Egyptian civil society. Covering a wide spectrum of topics, the portal provides non-governmental organizations with the platform to share their success stories and learn from each other's experiences, thus becoming a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in following the rhythm of civil society in Egypt.
Mogtamana is the official website of the "Egyptian Civil Society" project which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development and executed by the Electronic Journalism Center of the American University in Cairo.

The Al-chemia Remedies are a set of 20 Egyptian Flower and Sacred Sites Remedies. They were created in Egypt between the years 2000-2004. The last remedy was made at the Temple of the Sun during the Venus transit. Like all Remedies they capture merely the ‘essence’ or vibration of the flower or place they were prepared.

The Al-chemia Remedies work on a transformational level, rather than a mental or emotional level like many other Flower Remedies. They work like catalysts, helping us to shift energetically. Alia’a R. Rafea is a professor of anthropology at Ain Shams University, Women's College. She is concerned with introducing perspectives that breakbarriers between nations and civilizations. She believes that educationis a main method that allows this to happen. Her specialization in cognitive anthropology and sociology of knowledge allows her to directly teach her students how to be critical to taken-for-granted notions and to continuously look deeper into their cultural and social surroundings. Professor Rafea taught abroad at Randolph- Macon Women's College in Virginia, and has participated in international, regional and local conferences, not only in her field of interest but also in other areas such as Sufi conferences, philosophy and literature. She is a member ofthe American Anthropological Association, American Sociological Association, the Egyptian Philosophical Society, and fellow at Society for AppliedAnthropology. She is a former secretary general for ZKH foundation, and a member of the Egyptian Women Writers Society. She devotes a great deal of her time to the activities of the Egyptian Society for Spiritual and Cultural Research (ESSCR). She has published many academic papers, authored and co-authored several books, the latest of her co-authored works being The Root of All Evil: An Exposition to Prejudice, Fundamentalism and Gender Imbalance, published by Imprint Academic in 2007. |

Aisha Rafea is the daughter of a prominent Egyptian spiritual Teacher; Master Rafea Muhammad Rafea (1903-1970). She is a devotee to learning, teaching, writing, researching and translating Spirituality to/from adults and children.
